Monumen Palagan Sambi

About 61 years ago, precisely on October 17, 1947, in the village of Sambi, the interior West Kotawaringin, etched a record of history for the first time the Air Force fielded RI paratroopers in the area.

RI's first paratroopers jump it at the request of the Governor of South Kalimantan that time, namely Ir. Prince Mohammed Noor told Air Force Chief (Chief of Staff of the Air Force) Air Commodore D. Suryadarma to establish a radio station that can connect the parent Yogyakarta (central government at that time) with the island of Borneo as part of efforts to maintain independence.
To meet the request, Air Force Chief of staff to form a special task to prepare and train paratroopers were 13 people, mostly recruited from the native of Borneo along with youth from Sulawesi and Java, under the command of Major Tjilik Riwut. With only trained for one week, members of the paratroopers who do not have adequate skills were parachuted from the plane C 4/Dakota RI-002.

On the flip is none among the 13 members of troops who managed to land smoothly to the ground. Everything is experiencing barriers in the tree. However, the challenges of the most tragic betrayal came from the nation itself, as there are persons who have informed the Dutch about the jump operation. Special forces who for months lived in the wilderness was eventually attacked by Dutch troops and resulted in three members of troops killed in the battlefield. These three people are killed in an ambush that Dutch troops are Iskandar, head of the troops, and two other members, Akhmad Kosasih and Hary Hadi Sumantri.

To commemorate the services heroes who died on that first jump paratroopers, in 2000 Memorial Theater Sambi was inaugurated by Air Force Chief of Staff Marshal Hanafie Asnan in the village of Sambi, Kotawaringin Barat, Central Kalimantan. Theater Sambi naming is based on the location where the incident occurred jump, which is in the village of Sambi.

Privileged Sambi Theater Monument can be seen from two aspects, namely the physical aspects of buildings and historical aspects. Judging from its physical aspects, features Sambi Memorial Theater located on the main part of this monument, namely the C 4/Dakota RI-002, the original plane that was used during the jump. The aircraft is supported by a concrete pillar that stands firmly above the courtyard area of approximately 10 x 12 meters. The condition is very well maintained aircraft, as previously this is a collection of precious objects owned by the Indonesian Air Force. However, after the Government of West Kotawaringin plans to build a monument to commemorate the jump, the Air Force plane was then presented to the Government of West Kotawaringin to serve as a symbol of this monument.

The value of history attached to this monument is to remind people of Indonesia on the contribution the Air Force Indonesia in ousting the Dutch from the earth. This monument also recalls the birth of the forerunner of the paratroopers corps of the Indonesian Air Force, because of the historic place was the first time the Indonesian Air Force fielded the paratroopers who was trained in just one week. Before the jump event that happens, the Indonesian Air Force has not yet completely paratrooper corps. As for the people of West Kotawaringin today, Memorial Theater Sambi is a symbol of perseverance of his predecessors in ousting the Dutch from the earth of Borneo.
