Monumen Palagan Sambi

About 61 years ago, precisely on October 17, 1947, in the village of Sambi, the interior West Kotawaringin, etched a record of history for the first time the Air Force fielded RI paratroopers in the area.

RI's first paratroopers jump it at the request of the Governor of South Kalimantan that time, namely Ir. Prince Mohammed Noor told Air Force Chief (Chief of Staff of the Air Force) Air Commodore D. Suryadarma to establish a radio station that can connect the parent Yogyakarta (central government at that time) with the island of Borneo as part of efforts to maintain independence.
To meet the request, Air Force Chief of staff to form a special task to prepare and train paratroopers were 13 people, mostly recruited from the native of Borneo along with youth from Sulawesi and Java, under the command of Major Tjilik Riwut. With only trained for one week, members of the paratroopers who do not have adequate skills were parachuted from the plane C 4/Dakota RI-002.
